Two and Three Dimensions

TIP OF THE MONTH

October is here and showing us clear bursts of Autumn. We witness the gorgeous transformations that nature makes when we look at the bursting foliage around us. We see it in colors, textures and shape. We feel it in the moist air, wet earth, breeze and changing temperatures. At least here in the northern hemisphere. . .

Hand in hand with transformations of this season brings in similarities with state of mind. Last month was about clearing of space, and this month is about taking in the dimensions of this new space. Come and join on the transformational journey as I infuse three dimensions into everything that I do.  Of course you are familiar with my interactive sculpture projects. Now I am taking it further and sprinkling in sculpture into workshops at Atelier Molenpad. This means that we now use clay and cardboard in team offsites, evening workshops, and of course the Kidzartlab. Curious? Book a session! In the Kidzartlab it is quite natural to shift quickly between one and the other.

Please do let these ideas extend permission to experiment with adding dimensions to your art.

OUR EXERCISE THIS MONTH:

Two and Three Dimensions as a collage piece . . .

  1. Keep your cardboard boxes for this next project, or gather some outside.
  2. Have a large pair of craft scissors, a Stanley knife, glue  and paints available.
  3. Start by cutting out random forms from the cardboard.
  4. Then combine them together, you can cut slots, so pieces fit into each other and glue other pieces.
  5. Arbitrarily paint pieces and add and take away pieces from this 3D Collage.
  6. Observe your piece from all sides (yeah this is so fun about the 3D world, what do you notice?
  7. Like to share? Post your art and findings on https://www.facebook.com/ateliermolenpad1/  . . .or Contact me for more on this topic.
