TIP OF THE MONTH

Sparkle. . .boom…fizzle…bang! Here’s to 2019! New year, new beginnings!

My father and I had a fun time today painting together about the topic of January. We wanted to discoverwhat January meant to us, as the first month of the new year. My word out of this painting was focus. .  .

On a technical note, we used a fun technique, as we painted on a sheet of glass and then made a mono-printof it at the very end. Do try it out for yourself! Way fun!

So thanks to creating this painting I have my topic for the year! Focus… on my dreamand passion. Interactive Art.  In the beginning of this video you can see that my father starts painting in an arbitrary spot. I love this, you see, we can start anywhere. We start right now. There is no need to wait for the stars to align. It’s simply a matter of starting.

As we progressed in the painting we had fun, made a mess and danced between creating structureand chaos. As common practice in the process of cleaning up, it can get messyat the start.

As the heart shape appeared in the painting, it took over. It needed space to exist. To me this speaks of creating spacefor my dream.  To declutterand remove distractions. Other things become secondary. For me this translates in inspecting my to do lists, and letting go of commitments that no longer serve. This idea of deciding what I am notgoing to do anymore is powerful. This idea goes in hand in hand with words that I was reading over the holidays by Napoleon Hill.

Again, through seeing painting as a metaphor, we can relate to the fact that primary, secondaryand tertiaryobjects in our painting guide the viewer into focus. This is no different for ourselves. Do check out the video above.
