TIP OF THE MONTH

Bizarre times right? This Covid-19 is affecting us all. We are being called to retreat to ourselves, our family and connect virtually. Also interesting how the meaning of time instantly shifts. We are forced to reschedule our days. Pushed to use the technologies for remote working, home schooling and touring museums virtually.

I feel that we are about to accelerate our learning as we shift into this new gear.

We are in partial lockdown over in Amsterdam. . .probably this will change seeing where other countries are at. At the moment schools are closed, restaurants  sex clubs, coffee shops closed. Supermarkets open. Some stores too. Some working from home, for others just normal working days in office.

This morning we walked to the playground. Such sunny weather made the walk over especially fun. Since the pace of time shift, I was observing my boys get to the playground. The playground was merely one part of their adventure out. You see. . .i was thinking. . .playground is the destination. Meanwhile the kids enjoyed feeding the swans, ducks, playing with puddles and dragging the shovel all the way there. It’s all about the journey to get there. Now, we all know this. . .and it is such a pleasure to see this in action.

So thank you Covid-19 for slowing down the pace. You see I see the benefit of seeing the positive nature in things. This is not at all making light of those in a risk category who are in serious lock down. I think of you the most and pray for an easy time period while this virus around.

Just for you I am also going FB live several times to bring in some creative projects that connect us virtually. So join in! I will repost these where I can. You can also follow me on instagram @daniellarubinovitz.

PLAY is now also in quarantine at NDSM Fuse gallery. .. this is also why I have decided to make figures together with you! You see I was still planning on creating workshops around this installation and well. . .now we are in a time warp where online is a possible place to be. . .

The sculpture will be available for 2 months at NDSM Fuse Gallery. 13 February- 5 April. I will have to see if these dates can shift slightly now. . .

From 14 April – 30 April it will be exhibited in an outdoor courtyard at Molenpad 15-17.  Official opening will be on 16th of April, 2020.

Play is supported by the AFK (Amsterdam Fund for the Arts)

OUR EXERCISE THIS MONTH:

CREATE YOUR OWN SCULPTURE FIGURES . . .

  1. Collect some paper, scissors, tape, staples, paints, markers. . .or white paper glue and clips.
  2. Think about the people who you want to represent as your paper figures. Cut out shapes, and start to build up figures.
  3. Attach them to something so that they can be vertical.
  4. Paint the pieces as you feel.
  5. Create a story with these figures. For instance. . .communication. . .what it feels like to be in lock down. . .play out a picnic all together. . .think of it like a family constellation. . .
  6. Like to share a picture of your figures? Post your art and findings instagram @daniellarubinovitz #playartamsterdam. . .or Contact me for more on this topic.
