December Layers. . .

TIP OF THE MONTH

Here in the Northern hemisphere, leaves on the ground are fully layered. The leaves underneath are indeed a bit soggy and generally appearing as a dark brown pigment of substance. Above it we can notice generally yellow, and still intact leaves above that have fallen of the last week.

It’s gorgeous. It’s crisp. Its inviting to walk around and seeing even farther into nature. With the leaves off the trees, we do in fact see farther as the branches frame the landscape right in our view.

Wintertime, here we are. All the holidays, diverse cultures celebrating light, sharing and togetherness. A general feeling of coziness along with fragrant spices and teas. A time of rest and reflection as schools and many businesses go offline. There is more time for playing puzzles, cards, drinks and food. There is time for the appreciation of each other. Appreciation of nature. Even nature ice skating if we are lucky.

Needless to say, it’s a bummer not to be with extended family and close friends who are abroad. Travel restrictions and a general sense of unclarity in how to keep safe around Covid.

All the same, 2020 is leaving, it is going down into the book of memories. What was was. We now are invited to open up 2021 to infuse it with health, safety, our dreams, survival, new decisions, our essence and joy. I say, let’s welcome the dreams. so much more is actually possible. . .in person. . .virtual.

What might we imagine. What is important to us now.

Like this bed of leaves, in this video, each year is a layer in the tapestry of our life. What colors, shapes, forms, textures do we want to turn this page to?

For me, as I have been reviewing 2020, and as you have read month in and month out, it’s been about Public Art. I have entered many many commission entries. So far I came out on the short list. . .runner up.

Yes. . . even the butterfly project. I just heard that it wasn’t chosen in end. . .even though it did win the public vote! This is too bad as I would have loved to contribute this piece to the blossoming of the neighborhood.

Who knows for whatever reason, political, timing, appropriateness. It’s ok, I let it go, something better is coming. Each submission is adding a new layer to my knowledge, expertise, and simplification in the application process. . . want to see the image again of this butterfly? Check it out on my personal artists site: here

Needless to say, I wish you a good month to wrap up 2020 in whatever sense that means to you and welcome 2021. Do enjoy the monthly tip. . . .and remember, keep drawing and painting. For me this is the essential tool for brainstorming my Public Art ideas too. Everything starts as an intuitive painting. . .
