TIP OF THE MONTH

August! What a great month to be out in nature, (at least in the Northern Hemisphere). As I am outside in nature a lot this month, I get to reconnect to nature and the pigments that nature offers! Did you know that natural drawing and painting materials can easily be made with all plants, fruit, berries and vegetables? Look around you outdoors, see what is growing, look at the fruit in your fridge, the red wine and even charcoal used for the BBQ.

All these items can be used for painting. All the colors that we see in these edible items have a natural pigment. In order to use it for our art, we simply need to add a binder (fancy word for glue). We can easily add glue directly into the mixture, or continue with natural materials, such as using egg yolk, which also is a great binder.

So get creative right now with what happens to be lying around. Eating some berries? Go ahead and squish some on the paper. Have some charcoal from your BBQ? Draw with it. Got some mud or sand around? Draw with that too! Think of it this way, the more that a fruit or berry stains, all the better for painting!

This is a great way to connect with nature and be in awe of these pigments. It’s both relaxing and nursing while doodling this way in your sketchbook. August is all about this deep connection with nature and experimenting with new ways of expression.

The pop up airbnb experience workshops have been great fun! They continue weekly this month. Participants choose to be inspired by a dutch expressive master. It is called: “Create Art Inspired by Dutch Masters” . . .an Amsterdam Experience. I have chosen, Mondrian, Van Gogh and De Kooning. These are a great way to block time amongst a busy schedule for yourself! Contact me for more info: www.daniellarubinovitz.com

Looking for some accountability for your creativity? To know that you have a great studio to come to monthly with others? To receive guidance and inspirations in your drawings and paintings? The monthly intuitive painting club starts up again at Atelier Molenpad in September.

While I am at it, when you are ready for a unique Team Development Event, do contact me about possibilities at the studio, or your own location. I look forward to welcoming you and your team for a training with a huge splash of paint. . .
