TIP OF THE MONTH

July is the month where I dig in to the sketchbooks! Whilst, I always doodle and play around in them all year round, I tend to travel this month, spending time on the beach, cafes and gardens. So … I bring my sketchbook and portable art supplies. These are the moments that bring continuous experimentation of my creativity throughout the year.

These notebooks inspire a non-preciousness, non-performing, non-result oriented play as small scale creations. I like to experiment with waters, pigments, wet and dry medium mixed in layers. On the same note, these days I favor towards the cheap notebooks. I remember in the past, I used to select just the right professional bound sketch book. They are fun too, it’s just that I do love these lightweight variations. They come in both lined and blank format.

The lines also work well for writing my 3 page morning pages as inspired a long time ago by Julia Cameron. In this writing, my goal is simply to fill 3 pages. It helps me to let go and ground random, scattered thoughts. I still use this type of writing as a first layer for free flow material experimentation. . .

Having said that, I wish you a super month of reuniting with your sketch book whether you are indoor or outdoor (and do check out the video above. . .if just to see the boyz. . .at the end).

While I am at it, when you are ready for a unique Team Development Event, do contact me about possibilities at the studio, or your own location. I look forward to welcoming you and your team for a training with a huge splash of paint. . .

Visiting Amsterdam this summer? Or want to come and experience painting as a visitor to town? There are pop up workshops on request all summer long! I have created a fun airbnb experience event where participants choose to be inspired by a dutch expressive painting master. It is currently called: “Create Art Inspired by Dutch Masters” . . .an Amsterdam Experience. I have chosen, Mondrian, Van Gogh and De Kooning. These are a great way to block time amongst a busy schedule for yourself! Contact me for more info: www.ateliermolenpad.com

OUR TIP THIS MONTH:

The tip this month is to explore, allow and use your sketchbook  . . .

  1. Pick up a sketchbook. . .this could be in any shape and form. Just something that you will love to carry around in your bag.
  2. Combine some lightweight art materials. . .think crayons, pastels, water colors, inks, gesso, coloring pencils and such. . .
  3. If you are on vacations as you are reading this mail then find a place where you are comfortable to doodle and experiment in your book. . .at the beach. . .add some sand to your creation. If you are at work or home, go ahead and take 15 minutes today to doodle in your book. . . you might want to start with some writing and then paint/ draw over it as a first layer. . .
  4. Keep adding or taking away colors and forms until you feel like it. Like to share? Post your drawings and findings on https://www.facebook.com/DaniellaRubinovitz/  . . .
