TIP OF THE MONTH

The feeling of spring is in the air. Nature is blooming, from the early crocus that popped up above the ground to the currently blooming cherry blossoms up in the trees. I find it especially vital to be connected to nature during these times. In Holland, we are still in lockdown and the frustrations can build up if I think too much about the restrictions put upon us all. Evening curfew, closing of parks on sunny days, wearing of masks etc.

Positive vibes is deeply ingrained in my spirit and I have to thank my connection to nature in keeping my energy up. The seasons have made a big shift from internal action to external expression. Every morning i pass through the park to bring the boys to school. It is a blessing to show them the buds on the trees. Some buds will become leaves and others flowers. It is nothing less than a miracle and they make my boys and I so happy.

Nature is the only thing that moves past human restrictions. The flowers enjoy the sun and water and bloom. They are unstoppable. I enjoy the blessing of the season and feel the chance for renewal. I follow nature during these times to witness change. . .especially since restrictions seem so ongoing.

Back in my art therapy schooling days, we learned all about metamorphosis. The transformation from one form to another. I would observe a plant grow from bulb to tulip and notice every day changes. Then I would draw these changes, and my favorite part was to sculpt these changes out of clay. In the video, I take you through this metamorphosis. I always keep some plasticine clay at home so that i can keep reshaping and transform shapes.

I always start my clay creations with a sphere. Spheres are the essence of all. We see it reflected in nature, raindrops, eggs, planets, flower buds. The flower buds look like spheres in bloom. The whole planet feels like a sphere in bloom, at least in the northern hemisphere.

So two more things: Like my video above? I invite you to click at the bottom right to subscribe to my youtube channel.

Also, had a super teambuilding this month with 30 participants over zoom. All participants loved it and were able to bloom from their own home. Please forward this info to teams would would like to experience it too! http://www.ateliermolenpad.com/intuitive-painting-plus-team-offsite/

On another art note, my public art sculpture, Flying fish is being fabricated. More info about my art always on my instagram account @daniellarubinovitz. It will be installed in the Price Sculpture Forest on Whidbey Island in Washington State.

As already mentioned. .. at the studio I am offering Zoom pop up painting classes for individual (pop up) and Zoom team building workshops for companies.

Let’s stay in contact about how we might collaborate together in workshops and art installations.

OUR EXERCISE THIS MONTH:

Dig in and create with clay. . .

  1. Check out video above.
  2. Grab some clay, earth clay, plasticine, play dough, etc. . .
  3. Start by creating a sphere with the palm of your hands. Take the time to create it. feel as if your are creating it from the core of the clay to the outside surface. You can feel the clay better when you close your eyes.
  4. With your fingers start to squeeze bits of the clay so that the shape shifts.
  5. Keep going, and rotate it in your hands. Scan it in your hands until it feels right.
  6. When it feels done, place it on a surface in such a way that you can view it from all sides.
  7. What do you notice? What does it remind you of? What else?
  8. Like to share a picture? Post your art and findings instagram @daniellarubinovitz  & @ateliermolenpad. . .or Contact me for more on this topic.
