Tie-Dye Inspiration

TIP OF THE MONTH

August is the highlight of summer . . .at least in the Northern hemisphere. Now is the time to get to those happy summer time activities, at least they are happy times for me. Tie-dye is a great way to play with color and pattern intuitively on some white T-shirts or other fabrics. Alternative using bleach on dark fabrics is a fun twist. They are fun to make and super to wear. I find them to be bursts of light and color!

On another note, as you can see in the video above, witnessing the varying stages of development of the tomatoes in my parents-in law veggie garden feels metaphorically like project phases. In my sculpture projects, I plant seeds, create sketches, make models, finesse and develop these projects and witness other projects ripen up and being installed, like Flying Fish. For instance, last week, in Greece, I planted a seed. . .a submission for an outdoor installation proposal. I certainly hope that this seed sticks and becomes a contribution to the city of Amsterdam to inspire residents and visitors alike.

These stages of development are a good reminder to me, so wanted to share them with you as a reminder. As these projects grow they have unique needs. Some projects need time to brew, others need much energy. Others are able to continue off the vine and can make it on their own. It’s fun for me to relate project phases to the growth of tomatoes. t’s also fascinating to me how their size and color changes as they ripen from green, to yellow to orange to red. I am thinking to color code my project maps accordingly.

On another topic, I am delighted to continually share images of Flying Fish with you on social media (@daniellarubinovitz instagram) If you are in the area of Price Sculpture Forest on Whidbey Island (North-West of Seattle).please do go visit! Such fun. I am oh so grateful that this massive project was possible through the technology at our fingertips! I certainly miss not being there in person nonetheless.
