November Rainbows

01 November in Journal

TIP OF THE MONTH This month I have been pondering about rainbows. Amidst the combination of rain that we have had in bucketloads over here in Amsterdam and the sunshine peering through, it's been a time to witness these magical moments. No doubt about the quote: "Life is like a rainbow. You need both the sun and the rain to make its colors appear.” The colorful rainbow ark is like a present that we receive after the rain has passed. Makes me think of the mystique and symbolisms that are held within the rainbow. Though each culture has its own meaning, I love the metaphoric idea that it is like a path. . .a road that we can follow to our own symbolic pot of gold. It's about our dreams coming true and being in that place of magical flow. When I look at a rainbow, and recently we have had plenty to admire,...

October Leaves

01 October in Journal

TIP OF THE MONTH Wowzers, October is here, the leaves are starting to turn and blow along the streets as if a fully orchestrated dance. October also means that it's a great time to share that I have been brewing another little being inside, yes, I am expecting again and feeling great! So grateful for this opportunity once more!  Having said that, I am just now starting a maternity leave and so the monthly club will continue again in January. Like the bears, I will be burrowing in a warm cozy cocoon for a bit. Sign ups for January are starting now however, so do let me know that you will be joining us! Along with the adult monthly groups, I will be starting monthly pop up classes for kids. I was inspired to do so, as I see how much Noah loves to immerse himself in the paints. . . .and the studio is...

September Senses

05 September in Journal

TIP OF THE MONTH September is the perfect time to activate our 5 senses in order to make even the most mondain tasks exhilerating. Why is this? Simple, when we activate the core senses: Smelling, Taste, Seeing, Touch, Hearing we are in the moment truly feeling, truly being in our experience. I prefer to reconnect to these core senses, knowing that our 6th sense of extrasensory perception is available for us. And it's so simple! We get to experience and appreciate what comes in through our senses in such an abundant way. Our senses are like a super highway into our emotions, memories, feelings. They are meaningful. On my way to the studio, I often stop and literally smell the roses along the side of the canal. I smell the sweet happiness, smooth love that they exude. This act of stopping and smelling brings me into the here and now. The fragrance of this rose is all that there...

August: Disconnect to Reconnect . . .

12 August in Journal

TIP OF THE MONTH August can be the perfect time to disconnect to reconnect, especially when you are living in the northern hemisphere and enjoying the core of summertime!  I mostly go to Greece during this time of the year, and with off the chart temperatures, we run for the waters! So what a better opportunity to emerge myself into this element. I personally love the feeling of floating and experiencing the feeling of weightlessness. This refreshing feeling is one of boundary-less freedom and play. Experiencing continuous flow and transformative qualities at my fingertips exudes the feeling of possibilities. In the water, I feel little resistance and my body can move in every which direction that it chooses. Forget about boundaries when working with this element of water. This sense of disconnection of structure, without boundaries, creates a feeling of freedom. It allows us to let go. It allows us to explore unrestricted movement and inner feelings. Afterwards, we get...

July: Holiday Notebook . . .

06 July in Journal

TIP OF THE MONTH Before you are off on your holidays, pack any form of notebook/ sketchbook!  Yes, really do. I happen to like the simple lined notebooks that are definitely not designed for painting and such! What I like about them is the fact that they are light and flexible to carry around. I can write in them, paint, draw, collage and not worry about its preciousness. See the fun tip below. See what happens when you mix oil crayons and watercolours. It's like magic. . .inspirational and motivational! It's also way fun, while travelling to use local art supplies, mud, pigments, local papers and such! Enjoy this month! x Please give the tip of this month a go and do contact me when you are ready for guidance defining your next chapter! Believe! ------- OUR TIP THIS MONTH: My tip this month is to play with mixing different art materials. Grab your sketchbook and doodle with oil...

June: Royal June . . .

07 June in Journal

TIP OF THE MONTH Royal June, we bow to you!  Summertime! Here in Amsterdam, we just passed a bit of a heatwave. Though, as I sit here writing you this note, this wave has passed on. . . Rain or shine however, I am exploring what it means to feel ROYAL! This topic is inspired, as my art installation, La Vie En Rose is installed front and center at Paleis Soestdijk. This is the former palace of the Dutch Royal Family. Queen Juliana lived here with her family for over 6 decades. Now it's open to the public as a museum to tour the palace and stroll around the abundant grounds. It's a fun get away for the day, especially as they offer family events throughout the season. This weekend was an art, jazz and wine event, and as you can see in my video above, the girls in their cute royal dresses are running through...

May: Holiday Plans

03 May in Journal

TIP OF THE MONTH It's  Aaaah May! A fun time to plan the holidays! It's the time that I ask myself: What do I desire for my next holidays? Sketching, biking, painting, walking, hiking, swimming, sculpting, writing, dancing, singing, socialising, solitude, culture, health, education, adventure?  As I live in the city, my choice is often has to do with nature. This year this choice applies once again. A place abundant with the elements of earth, water, warmth and air. I want to be outdoors and in contact with nature. I want to feel a gentle breeze on my cheeks. Hiking with my dearest ones. Sketching under the shade of a tree. Long distance swimming in the ocean. Drifting on floats. Lots of stracciatella ice-cream. Meaningful conversations. Pampering massages. Rest. Me time. Entertainment. Yoga. Pinacolada. What would be your dreamtime spent this time round? x Please give the tip of this month a go and do contact me if you would...

April: La Vie En Rose . . .

02 April in Journal

TIP OF THE MONTH It's April Folks! Time for spring cleaning on all levels. Metaphors here include cleaning our lenses and transforming them into positive perspectives. Seeing the glass as half full! This is the idea behind my art installation, Through Rose Colored Glasses / La Vie En Rose (yes, double titles). We can, from time to time, be influenced into seeing things from a perspective that is not in our highest and best good. Why would we do this? Convention? Fear? As a matter of fact, I bet that we could make a career out of watching what meanings and opinions could be made to just about anything. Yes, it would be fair to say that we, as humans, are meaning making machines. Mmmmm so if that's true, then we could choose to make meanings that benefit us vs. meanings that don't . . .still with me? Yes, we could look from a 'la vie en rose' perspective. This quote...

March: Sprouts . . .

02 March in Journal

TIP OF THE MONTH Welcome to March!   I love the feeling when the longer daylight hours become noticeable! (at least in the northern hemisphere) Yeah!  This extends our possibilities of viewing blue skies (weather depending of course!). It's also the time to observe the budding sprouts make their debut!  Comforting to see the buds swell and open up to new creations, leaves, flowers, plants, trees! To me, this season offers and thus feels like new beginnings! Honestly, every month, offers a new beginning . . . actually every day does! Right! I love this thought, and I remind myself of this all the time in order to choose fresh each time!  This is a continual process that goes hand in hand with choosing and letting go of projects wisely. Lately, I have been using the good 'ol 80% / 20% rule. There are countless variations of this rule. I like the idea to to spend 80% of my time on tasks and projects that...

February: Nonverbal Communication

02 February in Journal

TIP OF THE MONTH Welcome to February!   With Valentine's day just around the corner, the topic of nonverbal communication springs up in my mind! Painting from the heart. . . is the perfect way to express. Instead of merely relying on the spoken word, we can feel into the colors, the lines, the surfaces, the light and the dark. We can move fast or ssssllllllllooooooowwwwwlllllyyyy over the page. We can choose to weigh down heavy on to the page, or as fairy dust, skim the surface. We can choose to remove paint, or splatter more on! Mmmmm, yes! We can scratch into the paint. . .or rub it further into the material. We can use a brush, pallet knife, rollers, and any other tool around . . .though my favourite would be to use my hands. . .this is the most direct contact for art expression.  I am hoping that this this brief note makes your hands nice and thirsty, and inspire...
