May: My Space . . .

01 May in Journal

Here we are in May! It's so weird that time. . .nature just goes on and on. . .when it seems like the rest of the world (as we know it) has been on pause. . . In Amsterdam we never had a true lockdown in comparison to our neighboring countries. I fell blessed about this that we were able to take responsibility in taking care and such. I felt that people were quite respectful in giving space, in this case 1.5 meters....

April: Monoprinting at home. . .

02 April in Journal

Bizarre times are a continuing! We are still with semi-lockdown in Amsterdam. This basically means that no group activities are shut down. . . sooooo. . .that means I miss seeing you in person! From time to time I jump on FB Live for some sharing of tips. . .last ones were on creating 3D paper sculptures. . .and one one the idea of how social distancing is actually a luxury. . .You can follow us also on instagram @daniellarubinovitz for behind the scenes of my art installations. @ateliermolenpad for inspiration right from the studio. @kidzartlab specially for inspiration for kids. Lots of ways to connect while keeping distant. . . So what am I up to these days in the studio? I am applying for more installation submissions. Just got a new one in and sent another one out last week. They are quite a bundle of work, though it is definitely...

March:Journey IS Destination

17 March in Journal

Bizarre times right? This Covid-19 is affecting us all. We are being called to retreat to ourselves, our family and connect virtually. Also interesting how the meaning of time instantly shifts. We are forced to reschedule our days. Pushed to use the technologies for remote working, home schooling and touring museums virtually. I feel that we are about to accelerate our learning as we shift into this new gear. We are in partial lockdown over in Amsterdam. . .probably this will change seeing where other countries are at. At the moment schools are closed, restaurants  sex clubs, coffee shops closed. Supermarkets open. Some stores too. Some working from home, for others just normal working days in office....

February PLAY

01 February in Journal

Yes, my sculpture installation is being installed next week! Not that its fully done yet. . .its at that 80% marker! So still dotting the i's and crossing the t's. Exciting though! These 5 full scale figures are in development as I have been painting them this week. It's a joy to paint in 3D like this. I am loving the sculpture materials of cardboard, epoxy resin and fiberglass to build up anything and then painting in. I choose theme material primarily to crate a lightweight piece that would be easy to interact with. To me this piece is secretly a test pilot for a steel version that I would like to make and have been on the hunt for a suitable outdoor location for it. . . In the meantime, I have been creating meaning of interaction and process of creating these 5 pieces in different scales. ...

January Path to Passion

09 January in Journal

I definitely feel an energy shift. . .and this is one of urgency. . .the urgency to update the path to passion. This passion clearly has a unique meaning to each of us. For me, that path continues to be interactive outdoor inspirations. It's important to me that people can interact with art. Influence can be felt when interacting, rotating, moving an art piece. New stories are created, told and shared. . .This excites me....

December Gifts

04 December in Journal

Now, this is the time to make a practical excuse for intuitively painting wild ! Huh? Yeah, make your own wrapping paper and let loose! totally. . .the looser the better! Drip, smear. .. dabble, print. . .whatever. It is way fun to make wrapping paper, holiday cards. . .or go ahead. . .the whole present. This message is short and sweet. Intuitive prints can be done on any papers. . .for large gifts, newspaper, newsprints, packing paper work well to ge the practical scale for wrapping paper and think so its easy to wrap. Please do let these wrapping paper ideas extend permission to experiment and make for some unique giving....

Decisions From The Gut

01 November in Journal

Waouw. . . this month of November has seriously Zoomed by!  I have been cranking on my large scale art submission project and am now catching up on everything else. You know how it is to be totally focussed on something! As part of creating this sketch for this art submission, I had lots of decisions to make. This was my inspiration for this newletter. . .as I needed a reminder to it myself! Use your gut to make decisions! Feel into the energy of all options. . . warm. . .cold temperature. . .colors. . .texture and any sensory feelings that can be collected when we think about that particular option is key. It's so easy to let our rational part of our mind make a clear case as to why, however if we can let our gut have the first dibs, we can cut to the essence on what is important...

Two and Three Dimensions

01 October in Journal

Hand in hand with transformations of this season brings in similarities with state of mind. Last month was about clearing of space, and this month is about taking in the dimensions of this new space. Come and join on the transformational journey as I infuse three dimensions into everything that I do.  Of course you are familiar with my interactive sculpture projects. Now I am taking it further and sprinkling in sculpture into workshops at Atelier Molenpad. This means that we now use clay and cardboard in team offsites, evening workshops, and of course the Kidzartlab. Curious? Book a session! In the Kidzartlab it is quite natural to shift quickly between one and the other....

Fresh Starts

10 September in Journal

With the light so bright, I notice the high contrast in the shadows that are created on the ground as I walk by. This is my inspiration of this newsletter. Playing with shadows. . .  which is actually playing with the light. I get reminded how light and shadows are the flip side of the same coin. Shadow is created when an object blocks the light. Often the shadow looks distorted because of the angles where the light reaches the object and of course more distortion comes from the surface that the shadow falls on. Interesting huh! This distortion of the shadow feels like a perfect metaphor to me for the feelings that we have about our own shadow. It takes courage to find the fun in looking at our own shadow that is created when we block out the light. But it is well worth it. Guidance in doing this is...
